2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 School Calendars modified by Baker School Board

BAKER COUNTY – Last week, the Baker School District Board voted to modify the calendars 

for the 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24 school years to give staff in schools affected by bond and seismic projects dedicated time to pack and unpack around construction.

For the current 2021-22 school year, that will mean two fewer instructional days at Brooklyn Primary than at the other District schools. For the 2022-23 school year, that will mean two fewer instructional days at the Baker Early Learning Center, Haines Elementary, and South Baker Intermediate than at the other District schools. State requirements for instructional hours will still be met for all schools.

The last day of school for students at Brooklyn Primary this school year will be June 6, 2022, while the last day of school for students at the other District schools will be June 8, 2022. 

All schools will start the 2022-23 school year on September 6, 2022, one week later than previously planned. All schools will begin the 2022-23 Winter Break on December 21, 2022, two days later than previously planned, because staff generally preferred to lose two days of Winter Break, rather than two days of Summer Break, to accommodate the later start to the school year. 

For the 2022-23 school year, the last day of school for students at the Baker Early Learning Center, Haines Elementary, and South Baker Intermediate will be June 6, 2023, while the last day of school for students at the other District schools will be June 8, 2023.

All schools will begin the 2023-24 school year on September 5, 2023, and end the 2023-24 school year on June 6, 2024. Winter Break will begin for everyone on December 20, 2023, two days shorter than usual, again because staff generally preferred to lose two days of Winter Break, rather than two days of Summer Break, to accommodate the later start to the school year.

“We are thankful for a Board that recognized the need for staff to have some dedicated time to prepare for construction in their schools and to prepare for students to return to the space when construction is completed,” says Superintendent Mark Witty. “This will ease some potential anxiety and ensure that our students have the best learning environments possible during a construction phase.”
